2011 Annual Corporate Responsibility
and Sustainability Report

Corporate Responsibility

Engrained in our culture is has been the notion of taking care of our own. This year we’ve expanded the definition of “our own” to be the greater community around us. Individually we’ve given to our favorite groups through either money, donations of food, merchandise or time. This year, as a group, we’ve started giving money on monthly basis to groups that the individual employees are involved in. We feel that this enhances the team’s and the individual’s ability to make a difference.

Supported Organizations in 2011:

  • Southside Community Land Trust - http://southsideclt.org/ - Southside Community Land Trust provides access to land, education and other resources so people in Greater Providence can grow food in environmentally sustainable ways and create community food systems where locally produced, affordable, and healthy food is available to all.
  • Edesia - http://www.edesiaglobal.org/ - Edesia’s vision is a world in which all people have access to the basic human right of food and nutrition. To assure that vulnerable individuals no longer suffer and die needlessly from malnutrition – a completely preventable condition. To treat children as our own, and give them the life-saving tools to overcome malnutrition and thrive. We act now, because the cost of inaction is too great.
  • Mission Arlington/Mission Metroplex - http://www.missionarlington.org/ - MA/MM has been faithfully serving the Lord and the people of our community 364 days a year for more than two decades. They are able to do this because we belong to a wonderful community of caring people who give sacrificially so that people in need can receive the physical, spiritual and emotional support they need.
  • Providence Country Day - http://www.providencecountryday.org - PCD’s foundation—85 years in the making, rests on the hard work and commitment of its founders, and the more than 4,000 families and teachers who have since called it “home.”  PCD, like all independent schools, relies on the charitable giving of loyal donors to support both program and facilities, to uphold its mission and to educate its students to be ethical and engaged citizens.
  • United Way - http://liveunited.org/ - United Way envisions a world where all individuals and families achieve their human potential through education, income stability and healthy lives.
  • Buttonhole - http://www.buttonhole.org/ - Button Hole is a non-profit initiative governed by The Golf Foundation of Rhode Island and dedicated to providing a short course and teaching center focused on kids and "golf, the greatest game."

Corporate Sustainability

Waste Management - Year over year we’ve been pretty consistent with the amount of waste generated by the business 14,976 cubic yards of recyclable waste and 9,984 of non-recyclable waste. Towards the end of 2011 we started implementing our plan to reduce our paper usage by 90%. By taking advantage of some custom built reports in our ERP system we’ve been able to reduce the need for printing out orders, POs, and invoices. We continue to look for ways to reduce or eliminate paper usage.

Facilities - We continue to look for ways to consolidate office space (reducing the need for file cabinets is one way) to more efficiently heat, cool, and light the building. In the last half of 2011 we’ve consolidated the creative and executive office space as well as moved the embroidery machines to an area where we can control the environment more efficiently. We’re continuing to look for new space or land to build a more energy efficient/supportive space.
